Membership Cards

If I haven’t seen you to give you your 2011 membership card, it is included with this mailing. There will be a few other items of interest included with this mailing including a hard copy of the 2011 ride schedule for your perusal. If you have an interest in any of the rides, contact any of the board members at the bottom of this newsletter for more information.

Speaking of Membership

For 2011, Chapter XIV has 43 Regular Members, 1 Associate Member, 2 Honorary Members and 1 Special Member. We have one prospective Regular Member and one pending Honorary Member. Come out and join us!

Rides

We still anticipate that our Thursday night rides will begin on April 7th from behind the McDonalds on Rt. 208 in

Montgomery. If you’re not computer connected, call a board member for more information and verification. Some near future Blue Knight rides that were discussed were the NY X Philip Cardillo Ride on April 10th starting in Valley Stream, NY as well as the NY XI Bike Blessing at the Woodbourne QWL Building on May 1st

Spring President’s Meeting

It’s going to be May 7th at the Ramada Inn in Newburgh. It would be great to have a good showing of NY XIV members. No physical work involved. Mark the date and let me know if you’re coming. You will be needed on Friday evening after 1730 hrs when other members/guests arrive and most of the day on Saturday. You don’t have to spend the whole day there. We have enough members that if everyone strolled through wearing their BK Colors it would be impressive! Look for the flyer on our web site or included with this newsletter.

Memorial Day

The VFW Post in New Paltz No. 8645 has requested us to participate in their Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 30, 2011 at 6:00 PM. Formation will be

at 5:30 PM. Post Commander Dave Deyo states, “We hope you will be able to participate in this event by sending a representative group from your organization to help us show our support for those who have served in past wars, as well as those who are still serving to protect our country.” This is a great opportunity to honor our military as well as get some positive community exposure for our Chapter. We have to let them know if we are going to participate and two or three members just isn’t going to cut it! If you can be there, let a board member know before our next meeting on April 21stI and I ask that any contacts that board members receive forward them to Paul so we can coordinate the number of members participating and have time to notify the VFW.

Chapter XIV By-Laws

The proposed changes to the Chapter By-Laws had their second reading at the March meeting. No drastic changes, some to bring us in line with the International and some just to bring us up to date with fee schedules. A few sections of our chapter by-laws were proposed to be eliminated and we would abide by the International By-Laws covering the same sections. The proposed changes will be read at the April meeting after which the members present will vote on the changes. Two thirds of the voting members present are required to approve the changes. They are then sent to the International for review and approval.

Meet & Greet

There is a suggestion by Carl that we hold a function of some type at the Walden VFW to afford the members who might not often see each other a chance to meet. The dinner would be FREE to the member and a guest. There would be a cash bar for alcohol. Carl has laid some groundwork with the VFW and the menu is open from pasta to chicken and beyond. The only thing is that we would have to give a commitment of a minimum number of people to the VFW. What is needed from the membership is your input.

We need the members who do not have access to a computer to contact a board member and voice their opinion on whether or not to go forward with this function as well as an opinion of when to have it. As often as I ask the non computer members to contact me, only one member ever does on a consistent basis.

For those members online, there is currently a poll being conducted on the Yahoo Group site concerning this matter. If you’re a member of Yahoo Groups, go vote! If not, continue reading for information on signing up to the group.

Please contact any board member at the bottom of this newsletter with your thoughts.

Safety Officer

We are currently looking for a member to volunteer for the position of Chapter Safety Officer. More details to follow.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

We will be participating in a security roll at the Light The Night Walk in Goshen on October 15th. It’s only a few hours in the evening on a Saturday and they really only requested three to four members. Hours will be between 1600 hrs and 2030 hrs. Get your name on the list before all the spots are taken! Call Paul Lang if you want more details. This is another great way to have the Chapter recognized in the community.

Yahoo Groups

This is a great site for our members to connect and get information. Many ride and member photos are also posted here. Also a good spot to conduct polls of the members on various subjects. I have 23 good email addresses of Chapter XIV members yet only about 12 members are on the Yahoo site.

Speaking of that, the following members had email accounts in the past and I’m thinking that you still do but have changed them. Send an email to a board member with your updated email address, Thomas McGovern, Robert Kippel, Reuben Sanchez, Andrew Sairrino and Michael Sikos. If you do have an email account and haven’t been

getting mail from the Chapter, you need to contact us!

To join the BKNY14 Yahoo group:
Go to
www.yahoo.com

  • If you have a Yahoo account, simply sign in. If you do not have a Yahoo account, you will click on 'New here' to create an account. If it rocks your boat, you do not even have to put in the correct DOB, postal code or gender.
  • Now that you are signed in or have created a new account, click on 'Groups' and in the box where you will type the name of the group you're searching for, type in    BlueknightsNY14      Type the name in just like that:  BlueknightsNY14. You will then be brought to the group page. On the right side of the page, just over the Blue Knight shield you will see a 'button' that says 'Join this group'. Click on that and you are done, it will take a day or two for your membership to be approved.

For those of you creating a new Yahoo account (no cost of course), you will see some other options on the page where you create the account. You will have to come up with a login name and a password. Then you have the option to receive 'Individual messages' or a 'Daily digest'. There is not a lot of activity right now so you can select either one.

Good Deal
If you need to trailer your bike for service or anything else, the U-Haul on Windsor Hwy (Rt 32) in New Windsor has a great price on motorcycle trailer rentals. The ‘out the door’ price for a one day rental is less than $20. It has to be a ‘local’ rental, that is, the trailer has to be returned to the same rental location. A couple of our members have used the service and have been satisfied.

Next Meeting

April 21st before our Thursday ride behind the McDonalds in Montgomery.

Good & Welfare

Best wishes go out to member Andre Varin who had a medical procedure done in March. Get well and hope to see you riding soon.

Finally
I have included the TSC Fall Convention flyer - registration form with this newsletter. The convention will be held October 7th – October 10th in Nanuet, NY, hosted by NY XVIII. During the convention, on October 9th our President, Carl Raymo will be joined in Holy Matrimony with Maggie Martinez. See the notice included. Could you imagine Carl getting married at any other time than a Blue Knights Convention???
